Requirements for Remote Notarization

1. **A SMARTPHONE, computer, or laptop with a working camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and access to email for document sharing.

2. **A government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver's license, passport) on hand.

3. **Private Setting -Please choose a quiet and private location for the online notarization to maintain confidentiality and reduce distractions.

4. **Email Access. You will receive electronic copies of notarized documents via email after the session, so please have access to an email account.

5. **Understanding the Document.  Please thoroughly review the document(s) before the notarization session to ensure you understand its contents.

6. **I will guide you on how to set up and join the video call after you book an appointment.

The person signing MUST be present with a valid unexpired photo id:

• U.S. State Passport

• U.S. States Passport Card

• A certificate of U.S. citizenship

•  A certificate of naturalization

• A foreign passport

• A U.S. green card with a photograph

• A state issued driver's license

• State-issued identification card

• U.S. military identification card

DOCUMENTS THAT CANNOT BE NOTARIZED

Documents issued by a Virginia Circuit Court, Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Vital Records, or the State Corporation Commission cannot be notarized. No exceptions. Instead, they are required to be issued within the past 12 months. 

Examples of those documents are:

• Vital Records (birth, death, marriage, divorce, single status)

• Marriage records issued by a Virginia Circuit Court (You must ask for a triple seal to be attached to your marriage record. It will be returned if there is no triple seal.)

• Virginia issued circuit court documents (divorce decree, name change, single status)

• Virginia State Corporation Commission issued documents
